Knowledge is power...

Several months after discovering the real reason behind his mother’s confinement to a psychiatric hospital and her eventual death, Otis Boone is at a crossroads. With the Vatican's experts still unable to translate her journals, he goes on a desperate search for someone who can help him decipher the hidden code in her writings. After hearing a rumor about a mysterious collector, Otis persuades Artemus Steele and his group of unearthly housemates to accompany him to Salem. But the arcane bookstore owner they meet is even more mystifying than they expected.

Sebastian Lancaster has spent the last two centuries trying to forget the awful night a monster invaded his home and slaughtered his family. When Artemus and his allies break into his bookstore and inadvertently bring a horde of demons with them, Sebastian finds himself thrust into an adventure he never wanted. Fate comes calling when he crosses path with an enigmatic Theology professor and events unfold that neither he nor Artemus could have anticipated.

As they race against time to save one of their own, Artemus and Sebastian must put aside their differences and work together to track down a demon hideout in England. But Sebastian is hiding a secret. One that has the potential to bring Hell to Earth.

Awakening is the 3rd book in the Legion series by A.D. Starrling. The Legion series is a spin-off from the Seventeen series. The main heroes are faced with a race against time to save one of their own, and must put aside their differences to work together to track down a hidden Demon lair in England. But one of them is hiding a big secret that could bring ruin to the Earth. With hidden agendas, twist and turns, and peril at every corner, this novel is sure to entertain and please. A must read from A.D. Starrling.

OMG this book doesn't disappoint. Sebastian is a great addition to the team! He doesn't hold anything back. The other team members don't like it too much, but considering the age differences, it's not surprising. And Otis, who knew, he certainly didn't (I'm not spoiling it)! Wow, another great one from A.D. in this series. The action is non-stop and the budding romance with two of the team members was a surprise. I cannot wait to see where that goes! Definitely recommend this book!

*I received an advance copy of the book and I say read it NOW!

An excellent book in the continuing Legion series! These books keep getting better and better. Enter Sebastian, who is the brother of Smokey and Callie. Things are getting really interesting between new gates, guardians, add in the romance and humor there is never a dull moment! Learn about rifts, who certain demons are and the past of Drake and Artemus! The biggest surprise to the plot comes in the form of Otis! Such an unusual young man trying to decipher his mother’s books and surprise!
The ending is always humorous and this book is no different but I love it! At least ten stars for this book and I cannot wait for the next in the series!

An amazing book that you don’t want to miss. A perfect fantasy story for everyone. Otis tried to discover the truth behind his Mother’s death and stay in a physiatric hospital. Loved the characters and the plot.

The Legion series has become one of my favorites. When I received the emailed Awakening was going live in January; I kept checking for the advance copy to read and review. Awakening does not disappoint; the women and men are still tough and kick butt with a sarcastic sense of humor. In this book we are introduced to Sebastian and get to know Otis, Artemus’ Assistant, better. Romances are starting to form between roommates; one is definite before the end of book and the other couple are still in the flirtation/attraction stage....I hope they do get together. My favorite character is still Artemus who can’t catch a break on the home front; seems like every time he turns around he winds up with another unwanted roommate at his home. I hope the author, A.D. Starrling, finds him a girlfriend even though he and Haruki are supposedly married per a ceremony performed in “Fire and Earth.” I strongly recommend the book and series for the humor and nonstop action; I ended up reading the book in one day.

This is book three in the Legion series. I had not read the other books so becoming acquainted with all the characters, and there are a lot, took some time. This book is difficult as a stand alone and since I hadn’t read the others I felt I was missing out on a lot of back story. I like that all these characters had found each other and formed a kind of family. I know they are fighting against Ba’al but I wasn’t clear about what Ba’al’s goals were. Sebastian, whose family was killed by a monster demon, has powers that fit in nicely with Artemis and the team. They work together to defeat Ba’al. There are a lot things that were unclear because I didn’t read the other books like why did they all manifest powers, what is the significance of the gates, what are the goals of the demons, what is the role of the Vatican. This story doesn’t answer those questions so it was a bit confusing for me. Demons were popping in right and left. Characters were manifesting new powers without explanation. I liked this but felt it needed more explanation. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Having not read either of the previous books in this series, I was hesitant to start with book 3. However, I was pleasantly surprised - the characters and universe were introduced in quick fashion without heavy exposition, and the novel progressed quickly from there. The action was tight, the characters felt like individuals, and the mix of mythology, religion and paranormal SFF seemed to work just right, leaving a Jim Butcher meets Rick Riordan taste in my mouth. You don't need much background in religion or mythology, but I imagine some knowledge couldn't hurt to help make clear some names and artifacts mentioned. This book (and likely the rest of the series) is a welcome addition to the urban fantasy genre, and I look forward to continuing to keep up with this series.

Enjoyable book. I have read all the books in the prior series and in this one. I really enjoy the dynamics between all the characters, and that despite them never having known each other, they have become a big, quirky., annoying family. The only aspect of this series that I don't like is that the reader really still doesn't know the reasons behimd any of the plot, despite it being two books in. Why the characters were awakened, why demons are on the planet, what is the prophecy? It's good to give the reader something to hold on to. Despite this, I found the book intriguing and funny, and definately look forward to the next installment.

It's been months since Otis discovered the truth of his mother being locked up in a mental hospital.
But he is still unable to translate her old journals even with the help of the Vatican agents.
So he goes in search of a rare book collector called Sebastian Lancaster.
Sebastian has for two centuries mourned the loss of his murdered family and with Otis' arrival bringing scores of demons down on the bookshop Sebastian has to face the demons of his past, LITERALLY!
Caught up in a situation he didn't want Sebastian and the others fight to save one of their own people and find a secret demon hideout in England.
Another thrilling adventure in the Legion series.

Awakening (Legion #3), my 20th read from author AD Starrling who again expands her literary world with this book. With each book she writes she further expands the work already created. The third book of her new, related series. I look forward to the next book in the series. Extremely well written, the characters, well developed. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make a reader get invested into the characters and thereby the book and this book has it all! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

A very well written, fun read. I enjoyed reading this book. It combines mythological creatures, super soldiers, immortals, angels, demons, and the weapons they wield.
This is book three in the Legion series, and the first one that I have read, so at first, I was a little lost, but quickly caught on. It would have helped if there had been an index of some sort in the beginning for new readers, but you can do without it.
I enjoy fantasy and mythology, and look forward to reading more of A.D. Starrling’s books.

We get to meet another guardian and it was NOT what I expected. I figured it would be a griffin which would have been neat. I was unaware of one if the attributes this one has, but it is in some of the literature. I’m not sure about the character overall. For someone who is supposed to be cultured he is quite boorish. Slight spoil here: I loved when he first meets Callie and calls her a lady. Serena was ticked off at that. He claims, “A lady doesn’t attack a man’s genitalia”. Serena then blurts out, ‘It was a demon!!”. Small doses of the guy is fine, but he needs to be used sparingly.

I thought the book started out a little slow but was pleasantly surprised when all of a sudden it sped up to mach speed. This was the AD Starrling I was used to! From that point onward it was non stop action and mayhem.
Each book in this series adds a new character or two to the team. I can't wait for the next volume.
Five stars all the way. I was sent an advanced copy to read and was asked for my opinion.

Someone ate the invite and Artemus and the gang show up to a black tie affair, under dressed. Nothing that unusual for this gang or that they would meet a professor that would kidnap Artemus' employee after meeting the newest member of the group. There's lots of action, suspense and humour all wrapped up in a fast paced plot that just draws you into the story. I found myself reading longer then I actually had the time for. Looking forward to book four.

Book Three of the series and the odds have amped up with the demons. As Artemus seeks more answers with Demon infestations, he finds himself no longer enjoying the solitude of his mansion. Although the tale has many twists and turns through dangerous territories, the humour and banter of our heroes and heroines gives this series an entertaining edge. Many riddles are solved, however this leads to yet more mysteries ahead.
I look forward to reading book 4.

Amazing!!!!

I don't even remember how I found this series! Facebook group, Facebook ad, what or where but I LOVE these characters!!!!! So entertaining and their dynamic is crazy. Extremely well written and you honestly don't know exactly what will happen next which is amazingly refreshing. I need a break because I have been reading back to back but not a long one. I NEED to know what happens next.

This third book in the series captures your attention from the very first page and holds it until the very end. Love the new characters, and the way that the existing characters continue to evolve. As always, even when things are at there worst, the characters retain that spark of humour that makes the books so much fun to read. This book can’t be read as a stand-alone, it is part of the Legion series. I would also recommend reading the Seventeen series as it gives you an insight into the origin of some of the characters in this series, as well as being an excellent read in itself

Addictive reading

These books should come with a health warning, cause they are totally addictive. Once you have consumed one you just have to devour the next one. Please do not look for plot spoilers here I don't write those kind of reviews. I just want to encourage you not to miss out on something good. Highly recommend.

Great read.

Fun scary at times and a continuing of the growth of our band. Past history is used to enhance the characters. They are new but of course they begin to know their weapons and their foes get ferocious and devious. Otis comes into his own during the worst fight of good and evil.
Looking forward to the next.

““I don’t think the Pope would appreciate being called a douchebag.””

“He patted Smokey’s head. The hellhound’s eyes rounded. He looked sheepishly at Sebastian before licking his hand. The rest of them stared. Sebastian blinked. “I am experiencing a warm, tingling feeling.” “That would be the acid drool,” Artemus said.”

I think the 3rd book in this series is the best so far. I absolutely loved the 17 series, and there were characters and references to that series brought into play. Such a talented author. A great read, I highly recommend it.

This series is working out to be pretty good. I enjoy the amassing of an intriguing cast of characters, some of whom are bigger characters than others. Occasionally, I feel as if the writing could use a bit more polish, but I am still anxious to move on to see what happens next.

Another action packed book where our heroes fight demons. We’ve added another character to our group. Sebastian. And Otis becomes a fully fledged member.

Straight into the next one for me now….

Demons, Angels & Beasts, Oh My

Mythological beings, Super Soldiers, dragons, Angels & Demons all fighting against the denizens of Hell to save the world. I love this series, none stop action with just the right amount of sexual tension with laugh out moments.
